Here at Moonie, we love our sport. Every year the Emus and Kookaburras (or the Kookies for short) go head to head in three epic carnivals. We also compete while representing the blue and white, everyone will participate and will play till the end.
On your marks, get set, LETS GO!!!!

CROSS COUNTRY

Every year in Term 1, students will run a long-distance race, ranging from 600m to 3km, depending on your age. So brace yourself and pace yourself, because this is one long ride. The Emus (green) and Kookies (red) score points by coming in the top three and participating is encouraged because everyone earns their team participation points. Age champions receive medals for coming first in their age group and the team with the most points wins!

ATHLETICS
This one's for the fast runners, the long throwers and the highest and the longest jumpers. This event works similar to cross country, but this time students compete in 6-8 events. This carnival is in Term 3 and occasionally The Gums comes and competes with us. We train for this event during PE, and you get a whole day off school. May the most all-rounded team win.

SWIMMING
This event is usually held in one of the last weeks in Term 4. Ribbons, medallions and trophies are still handed out to the fastest in the water, but it is a learning opportunity for more serious carnivals. Most kids compete in the four regular strokes, but the little kids can still use kickboards/noodles and there is no certain distance you have to do. When all the races are done, be prepared for a big, belly flop fiesta.

T & D / SW
After the interhouse action, there are Small Schools and T & D events where we represent our school. In cross country, all students go to the T & D carnival and the top six from the ages 10-12 make the Tara and District team. In swimming and athletics, all students go to the Small Schools carnival and the best from the 9-12 age groups go to the T & D carnival. You can also make the T &D team if you are aged 10-12 for other sports such as touch football, rugby league, netball, tennis, soccer, cricket, etc. You will go to SW trials if you are selected for the T & D team.
